I Don’t Know How I Do This To Myself

So yesterday afternoon I trimmed my bangs, did a little laundry, watched some bad reality TV, and cleaned up the house, all the normal crap I usually do on a Sunday, and at around three or four in the afternoon noticed that I had been rubbing at my eye. It was really, really irritated. I kept wiping at it thinking that whatever thing was in my eye would come out like usual, but it kept getting worse. It was gnarly and red, bright red and veiny from the corner to the iris.

At one point I convinced Chef to pour some lukewarm water over my face while I contorted over the bathroom sink, holding my sore eye open and raw. Hours later, I begged Chef to go to the store to get me an eye wash and some drops. Nothing helped.

I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I had my suspicions.

This morning Chef told me my eye looked like a bloodbath, so I left work early so I could make an emergency trip to my awesomely young and funny eye doctor. He put a bunch of dye and numbing drops in the eye and took a good look with his scope, and then his face dropped. “Oh my god,” he said. “I’ll be right back.”

He ran out of the room and hurried back in carrying a scary-looking pair of tweezers. I sighed. “Tell me you are not about to confirm that I have a hair embedded in my eye. Like, actually in my eye.”

“Lauren, you have a short, sharp hair embedded in your eye, and it’s scraping up all the tissue around it. Hold still.”

And then he plucked it out.

  • Yuk!! Turns my stomach, but I was always the one who could not watch someone put pierced earrings in their ear. Even now, I don’t like watching soemone put in contacts.

Glad it is better and you can see.

  • Something similar has happened to me; I have long eyelashes, so sometimes one of them gets “bent” and keeps poking my eye. Another time, one actually shed into my eye. I never know something so small could cause so much discomfort.

  • Er, make that “I never knew…”

  • Only you, Lauren.

  • the two things in the world that I simply cannot deal with are injuries to eyes and teeth.

    *shudder*

  • I have seen Lauren’s eye several days after the incident and it STILL looks like a bloodbath!!
