Lafayette threw it’s first OUToberfest celebrating the larger-than-you-think queer community here in this relatively rural area. These assholes showed up, but thankfully there were only two. AND they had some vocal adversaries who protested them in kind. In comparison, several hundred others showed up in support of the community’s first queer festival, taking inventory of the many local businesses downtown, the vendors that offered food, drink, and wares, and the many entertainers that showed us a good time. Chef and I went down after some friends, ran into some other friends and family, and generally had a great time.
Pride Lafayette, please do this again next year. It was wonderful.
We just got home from OUToberfest. I thought those two protesters were pretty pathetic, myself. I did see someone get into it with them enough that the cops stepped between them, but other than that they were just a shrug in a pretty fun event.
I came home with a purple sparkly tiara and a glowing blue wand. What else could a girl ask for? :-D
It was way cool — so laid back and fun. We left early because we’re all sick and crotchety, but I really wanted to stay later to see the performances. I really hope PL does this again next year.
I swear, there are a few vocal bigots out there that make it seem as though this community is largely unfriendly to anyone who isn’t white, het and conservative, but it ain’t so. Fuck ‘em. I threw their pic under the link because they aren’t worth it.
The best drag show I’ve seen in this town. (and a lovely show of everyone getting along swimmingly)
Actually, they’re saying the attendance number is close to 3,000.
I’m really hoping this was the first of many!
Why can’t these people be bothered to do a decent job of lettering on their pathetic placards? Cmon, bigots, lift your typographic game.
