After several weeks of feeling run-down and yucky, bile burps and all, I went to the doctor today and he believes that my chronic stomach aches are either a) a gall bladder problem, or b) an ulcer. Because what I need is another random health issue. At least I have insurance this time.
I go for an ultrasound tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Yikes. Good luck, and thank God for insurance.
Still betting on that damn gallbladder. Still sorry you don’t feel well. Best of luck, Lauren.
Good luck. I had my gall bladder removed in college. It wasn’t that bad, even though at the time it was open surgery (now they do it laparascopically, and I bet they can even do something with lasers to smash the stones). Insurance companies still paid for hospital stays then, so I spent a couple of days in the hospital and was back at school within a week.
If they remove your gallbladder, be sure to ask to keep the stones!
Oh, fabulous. Don’t be sick, Lauren!!
Yowza. Makes me feel silly for complaining about my comparatively trivial ailments. Hope it goes well! :)
Good luck.
Get well soon. My mom had gall bladder problems and had to have it removed. I think I inherited a bad one too… I can’t eat really fatty foods without getting sick.
I had my gall bladder out and had shingles at the same time. Not fun. Should we hope it is an ulcer??
Good luck with the ultrasound. I hope that they can rule out both of those things.
Icky. That sucks. I’ve been tenaciously avoiding checking out my own chronic stomach aches, which I think might be developing into some kind of reflux thingy. The most I’m willing to do is think about going to the apotheke and see if they have some magic stomach-acid herbs or something.
My mom had her gallbladder out and she was glad she did. Good to get it out early though; it caused her quite a bit of pain before she finally got it out. So way to be proactive or something. You are smrt.
Fuck. Hope it’s neither and you just need some more sleep or something crazy easy to deal with like that.
does your insurance cover seeing a naturopath? your problem sounds like one i had recently, and i’m all in favor of non-surgical interventions.
good luck, lauren!
retroactively, that is…
But your doctor knows many or most stomach ulcers are caused by heliobacter pylori, right? –The discovery of which got two Australian doctors the 2005 Nobel prize for medecine. And is treatable with antibiotics.
And I say all of that because I am a pedantic asshole, but also a good friend of mine had an out-of-the-loop doctor who was treating her stomach ulcer with pepcid etc, when it was a heliobacter infection.
