Will Style Hair For Urge

I do this on occasion: fighting the urge to cut off seven inches of hair and dye what’s left bright red.

Because I’ve done this before, I know it neither a) looks good on me, or b) satifies the urge to cut off my hair and dye it bright red.

What gives?

Self-mutilation is a strange impulse. But then again, red isn’t always red, you know… perhaps a different shade?

Maybe you should get a short, red wig?

If only you had time for a side business, you could apply the urge to others jonseing for shorter bright red hair…

What shade of red are we talking about? Because Bozo red is so 80’s…

my wife does this thing where, when she can’t work a hair appointment into her budget or her schedule, she buys a new hair-thingie - some kind of clip or comb or whatever that holds her hair in a style she likes, that’s shiny and cool looking. then if she has buyer’s remorse, resetting to zero is problem-free.

Maybe you only think you want “red” hair because you’re calling it “red”: have you tried “poinsetta,” “firecracker,” or “coral expression”? What about “lovable,” “cranberry whip,” or “grenadine”?

Oh oh oh- I just did this (but I dyed my already black hair black to cover the grey streaks that are multiplying like bunnies). I am regretting the haphazard chopping of my previously long locks, but I love the new color.

I have finally stop cutting bangs due to PMS (I hope) because they never look good on me. I feel you.

Hey, if you’re anything like me, you may just need tangible change.
Last time that hit, I painted an accent wall.

As someone for whom her hair is referred to as “an ongoing experiment” I say, go for it. After all, the hair? It grows back. As for color, the key to reds is to determine if you have cool toned skin or warm toned. There are loads of red options for warm tones, because they have an orange-y base. As for cool tones, I stick with the burgundies–particulary Garnier’s Black Cherry or Loreal’s similarly named one. Reds fade faster than any other color, so picking the right base is the only way to avoid feeing like Bozo.

As a fellow hair change junky, I feel you. Of course, at this point I can’t really cut my hair much shorter [unless I shaved it, and the urge does haunt me occasionally]. But I continue to dye it a variety of colors - just for the sake of change.

    Change is good.

I did that to my hair a while back. It was way past my shoulders and almost my natural light brown (which I haven’t seen in over 10 years, so I may not be remembering exactly what it looks like correctly). Then I just decided I wanted something different. So I got a really short layered bob and dyed it red (and by red, I mean red–I used Clairol deep red 044). I kept that for almost a year and went back light brownish-blond last summer.

But I agree with gennimcmahon, hair grows back and color can be changed fairly easily. Have fun with it.
