Gamers?

I want to get Ethan something cool for his DS for Xmas but I’m completely lost on the internet trying to sift through the good games and the bad. Any suggestions?

What about GameCube?

I thought Super Mario 64 was pretty sweet on the Nintendo 64, and I think they put out a similar version for the DS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_64_DS I haven’t played the DS one, though.

    For DSLite:

Does he have Big Brain Academy or Brain Age 2 (or 1, for that matter)?

I’d say for his level, go with Big Brain Academy — but you’ll even want to ‘play’.

Metacritic is a good site for comparing. Mario’s always fun and age appropriate: Mario Kart is one of MY favorites, for example. Also Mario Party out there. Legend of Zelda has shown up on the DS, too.

The new Marios are pretty good, then there is Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, or if he likes sim-type games there is My Sims. Lots of new and good stuff for the DS this time of year.

Another vote for the Mario games and Zelda for the DS.

For the Game Cube, Lego Star Wars!

It’s Wii time, baby. Nice and aerobic.

I’m going to agree with everyone who suggested that New Super Mario Brothers is a blast, and evil_fizz is right- Lego Star Wars is awesome. I was just playing that yesterday, in fact. Mario Kart DD and Twilight Princess are both great GC games, too.

What kinds of games does E like?

This may be totally idiosyncratic of me, but I loved Luigi’s Mansion for GameCube.

He has the Zelda and Mario games, and Big Brain Academy (which I love). On the GC he’s addicted to Windwaker, Mario Party, and Animal Crossing.

    Games NOT to get him:

    - Nintendogs of any sort

    - Hannah Montana DS

    - Cooking Mama

Can there be any more vapid games?

I’m seriously resisting the Nintendogs game. They look dumb but they’re really heavily advertised.

Also, we got the Sims pets (?) game (whichever one where you’re a vet) and none of us can figure it out after having it for a year. No more pet games.

For the Game Cube, I thought Super Smash Bros. was all kinds of fun.

Does he have the Zelda Phantom Hourglass game for the DS?

While they’re kinda old, the Pikmin games for the gamecube are cool (the upside to being kinda old is that you can find them cheap, you could probably get both of them for the price of one new game for either). Although Pikmin 1 has timer that can be kinda frustrating.
Beyond Good and Evil (also GC) is an excellent zelda style adventure/actionRPG thing.

His Grandma bought him the Phantom Hourglass game. It is a new favorite.

It might be harder to find, but if you can snag a copy of Trauma Center for the DS, it is weird and awesome. It’s like Guitar Hero for surgery.

It does get extremely difficult, though.
