And in honor of my upcoming appearance on Radio Free Pandagon, a live performance of “Wargasm” by L7 from 1993. Note Kurt and Courtney sitting on the side of the stage. Why this video? Two reasons: this song is rather timely in that it clearly draws a connection between war-mongering and sexual machismo, and Amanda and I will be discussing feminist women in punk rock and the indie scene from the 1990s. These things make for an awkward sentence.
If you weren’t aware, I used to have an unhealthy obsession with Courtney Love (and L7, and Kim Deal, et cetera) and I’ve recently resurrected it for the show. Tune in.
A few weeks ago, I downloaded “Don’t Speak.” I don’t know what tricks my memory had played on me, but I was burning with shame by the second note. To try to atone for it/wipe the experience from my mind, I downloaded “Doll Parts.”
And when I say “download,” I mean I actually bought them from iTunes, because I’m afraid of The Man.
The Children of the Revolution thank you.
