Everyone else in the blogosphere can talk PETA and food politics all they want to, but last weekend during a hearty Saturday breakfast I suggested a dessert idea to Chef and — if he remembers to bring some home — I’ll get to taste it tonight. He reportedly tried it out on some of the restaurant regulars and even though they didn’t want to like it they asked for more. Word.
My idea: Maple Syrup and Bacon ice cream.
Reports later.
UPDATE: Chef has a friend in Corduroy Orange.
They serve that very thing — on French toast, no less — as a dessert at Lola’s Bistro in Cleveland.
Excellent! It occurred to me while we were eating waffles and bacon.
Oh, I can so totally get on board with that! There is nothing like the combination of savory and sweet.
The other day my roommate got the munchies and made a peanut butter and frosting sandwich. I hate to admit that it actually sounded kind of tasty.
My favorite snack at the theatre has always been pouring Peanut M&Ms right into the popcorn. Savory and sweet is yum.
Business is slow. Credit card bills are rolling in and nobody wants to spend money in a restaurant. Might as well spend the bitterly cold month of January making ice cream with all my spare time. Rum and coffee. Chocolate and peppermint. Jack Daniels. Ginger and lemon. Maple syrup and bacon. Great idea. Cuz EVERYBODY in Indiana wants ice cold, ungarnished dessert to match their ice cold, ungarnished landscape.
We’re movin’ to the Bahamas, where my bacon-flavored shaved ice will be truly appreciated.
Four words: peanut butter and bacon. Not for the faint of heart, but a truly tasty sandwich.
Oh heavens does that sound delicious! How did it taste?
I have dreamed about bacon-flavored ice cream for years.
