PZ Myers points to this fascinating map of active hate groups in the US categorized by state by the Southern Poverty Law Center. This is how Indiana breaks down.

See that pushpin there? This is a group called the Council of Conservative Citizens that opposes immigration and amnesty. Scary — they have a blog. The purple star is a Nation of Islam group, which, color me surprised, they’re a hate group now? That purple star is being stomped, poked, and hooded on this wee map. No wonder they’re separatists. The rest of them — your usual mix of KKK, neo-nazis, and jackboot skinheads — aren’t a surprise at all. I had a run-in with a few skinheads several years back. The cover for their group was a regional chain of tattoo shops.

Yes! I love living here!
Here I was already to laugh at Indiana when I checked out Connecticut. Reagan Youth said it best with “I Hate Hate”.
They list the Nation of Islam as “black separatist.” And, well, if you listen to some of the speeches from Farrakhan, they aren’t all roses.
OTOH, most of what I see of them is bow ties and bean pies.
I was rather interested to see an Aryan women’s group in Brooklyn.
Quite scary. There are 52 hate groups in California, and 10 of them are in my county alone.
Hate = hate.
Just because the Nation of Islam isn’t strictly dangerous doesn’t mean they aren’t a hate group. They’re just as racist as any KKK group or skinhead gang.
I like your blog a lot. I came via PZ’s…I saw the title “Faux Real Tho” in his blogroll and couldn’t resist.
