[...] And yet sometimes it isn’t. I started this blog eight months after graduation and promptly began writing about my financial troubles. I was working three jobs after a brief period of unemployment (Indiana coughed), and trying to hold onto the one I have today so I could secure medical benefits because I was sick all the time. Meanwhile the Femblog Class Wars of ‘07 were raging abound, and I read in horror as people erected moral pedastals for themselves to sit on, thinking, LET ME KEEP MY GOT DAMN LIPSTICK! IT IS ALL I HAVE! [...]

[...] Faux Real: Class And Feminism I firmly believe that Jill’s tongue-in-cheek ownership of the phrase “fun feminist” — a term which should be banished to the high hills along with Hirshman’s “lumpenproletariat woman” — was received so bitterly because of people’s perception of her class status and embrace of femininity. Welcome to the feminist blogosphere, where no one is allowed to process out loud without having taken a firm stand. [...]

Every time I see the phrase "fun feminist" I automatically read "fake feminist".

and after so many years of busting ass for The Sisterhood, being called a "fun" (to mean fake) feminist really makes me mad on a personal level, to the point of blinding me to any useful dialogue or critique.

my itty-bitty voice in my tiny corner of the blogosphere is in. i've been reading you here since you starting blogging again, and i'm glad to hear this emphasis on unity as ultimately more important than in-fighting. it sounds overly simplistic to put it that way, but i think when you boil it down, it is almost that simple.

it can be a fine line between challenging each other and needlessly cutting each other down, you know?
