Cneeze or Snough?

I caught a nasty bug over the weekend. My sinuses are full and draining out my nose and down my throat, and I’m not hungry because my stomach is full of phlegm. I’ve mastered a feat — I’m deciding what to call it, hence the title — that starts with an explosive, wet sneeze, followed by a dry cough, ended with a groan on behalf of my sore throat. I say we add it to the X Games because it has the benefits of being both Xtr3m3 and H7rdc0r3 while also having a gross-out, Jackass sensibility.

I’m tempted to do a bunch of NyQuil shots and call it a night but I’m working on a project and sleeping is a waste of time, damn it. Also, somebody told me alcohol would kill whatever it is that is ailing me so I’m enjoying a nice glass of syrah. I can’t taste it, but whatever.

UPDATE, NEXT DAY: I was sent home from work today. Sent home. Considering that every snough I exploded this afternoon was met with a chorus of ten people in unison singing “Bless you!”, this was probably a smooth move on the part of management. I’m going to go lay around and lament that somebody took a cheese grater to my throat last night and wonder how I’ll make this month’s bills.

Oh Lauren, I’m feelin’ yuh. I’m in the same boat. Myself, I went the screwdriver route last night. I’m hoping the twin attack of vitamin c and alcohol will kill this shit with the quickness.

Whenever someone who was sick happened to show up at one of our happy hours, he or she justified his or her presence by saying, “Alcohol is a disinfectant”.

    I like that idea.

There’s definitely something going around. Even out here in the Great Northwest, there’s been a rash of upper respiratory infections. I got one myself.

Because I’m a nerd, Stephen King’s “The Stand” went through my head when I read this. Then, paranoia: “Shit, maybe they did release something. Not like they’d tell us.”

Get better, Lauren! You’ve got a party coming up.

P.S., If it’s like what I had/have, DO NOT SMOKE (as much).

I know. Stupid party. I’m spending the rest of my down-time this week preparing for the party. What do a bunch of kids care about the state of my kitchen? I blame the patriarchy for my illness and my compulsory cleaning.

My boyfriend convinced me to try an Airbourne tablet that’s some mega Vitamin C tablet. It doesn’t taste bad but it took me much longer to drink than my boyfriend who just throws back the glass of murky fizzing lemonlime stuff like a shot. It seemed to work b/c I didn’t get a cold - don’t know what it does if you already have one.

Hope you feel better and Nyquil does its job!
