New Blog Weirdness

You may know me as Lauren of Feministe. After blogging for approximately three years, I started Feministe in 2003 and left in January of 2006. In the meantime I have experimented with pseudonyms and gender identity and have decided it wasn’t for me. This new blog is an attempt for me to rediscover the writing voice I left earlier this year, reconnect with the community that supported me, yet do so without the baggage of blogging as a specifically feminist blogger.

I don’t do politics anymore, at least not current events and attempts at take-downs and punditry. This kind of writing, while stimulating, attracts a kind of dialogue in which I’m not interested. I was an English major, god damn it. I like a good story. My favorite kind of writing, and the kind of writing I believe I’m best at, is connecting personal stories to wider political experiences.

Unlike my previous experience at Feministe, I do not plan to spend an exorbitant amount of time on the computer writing posts and monitoring comments. I will write when I feel like writing and not just throw up posts because I feel obligated. This will not be an explicitly feminist blog, and I expect to disappoint many who first met me as a feminist. In short, my blog, my discretion. On all levels. Subscribe via RSS if you don’t want to show up every day to be disappointed that I haven’t updated.

I look forward to re-meeting you. Oh, and I brought back the blogroll.

This is my favourite kind of writing to read. I only wish I was brave enough, or eloquent enough to write it. I’ve loved what you’ve written so far.

Lauren, it’s great to have you back– in any guise. I always enjoyed your more “personal” pieces back at Feministe, so I look forward to hearing more about, as you say, how your particular personal experiences connect to larger political concerns.

I justed wanted to say “yea!” and “welcome back!” too, even if I am really late to the party.

What can I say? I live outside the circle. :)

    Holy Shit…

I just came across the new place. I’ve been sort of out of the blogo-loop myself for a few months.

I’m glad to have you back. Sorry I’ve missed out on the first few months.

Seriously, I had pretty much given up on blogs since your departure from Feministe. So selfhishly happy to have you back - and pages and pages of archives to read.

And you’re right - you do the personal as the political better than anyone. Welcome back!

Okay, so I’m two months late to the party. Glad to see you back, Lauren. :)
